First Appointment?

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR INITIAL ASSESSMENT

Your podiatrist will undertake examination to assess the condition and health of your feet prior to undertaking any treatment required. This may include assessing the vascular status of your feet.

Many factors can influence the blood flow to your feet which can be caused by the narrowing of the arteries in the legs.

Smoking, high cholesterol, Diabetes and hereditary factors can affect the vascular supply the feet - putting the feet and legs at increased risk of complications.

If you are found to have poor circulation and depending on the appropriateness, tailored advice will be provided to look after your feet and prevent complications.

If necessary a further Vascular Assessment called an ABPI (Ankle, Brachial Pressure Index) can be carried out. This will be discussed at your appointment if it is considered necessary.

Results can be sent to your GP and if necessary, you may be referred on to a vascular specialist consultant for further assessment.
